5G-Tronic

The Mercedes-Benz 722.5/722.6/5G-TRONIC or Sequentronic is an electronically shifted 5-speed overdrive automatic transmission. It is in the process of being replaced by the Mercedes Benz 7G-Tronic Transmission which was introduced in 2003. However, some new Benz models still retain the 5G-TRONIC, notably the V12 engined S-Class and CL-Class cars, as the 7G-TRONIC transmission cannot handle the torque from the V12. As well, while rear-wheel drive E-Class cars have adapted the 7G-Tronic, these with 4MATIC retain the five-speed automatic as of 2008.
