Semcon AB is a global technology development company based in Sweden with business at 40 sites on three continents. The Group is active in product development and technical information and is organised into three business areas: Automotive R&D, Design & Development and Informatic. In addition to Semcon the Group consists of IVM Automotive and Caran. It is led by Kjell Nilsson and employs about 3600 people[6].

  • 1980: Creation of the company.
  • 1982: Semcon open new location in Gothenburg, Sweden.
  • 1992: Semcon open the first branch inside Volvo Car ground.
  • 1994: New service area of technical information introduced in Semcon.
  • 1996: First testing laboratory opens.
  • 1999: Semcon Informatic, a new business area, is created.

Acquisition of BAUR Karosserie- und Fahrzeugbau, known not only for the Baur-TOP convertibles of BMW in the 1970s, but also as manufacturer of legendary cars like the Auto Union SP 1000 or the bodyshell of the Porsche 959 and BMW Z1.

  • 2004: Semcon starts Zound by Semcon and acquires ComTest.
  • 2005: Semcon opens in China and Hungary
  • April 2007: Acquisition of the German company IVM Automotive GmbH.

It is Semcon’s single biggest business area with customers such as Audi, BMW, Ford, GM, Mercedes Benz, Porsche, Scania, Saab, Volkswagen and AB Volvo.

  • Product Development (industrial design, mechanical design, production technology, polymer technology, prototypes, electricity and automation).
  • Embedded Intelligent Solutions.
